Q&A with Chantel Rosario
What's your go-to strategy for helping someone decide between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Answer: My strategy is to focus on the clients priority rather than the plan themselves. It depends on the clients budget, health, provider preferences, travel, and out-of-pocket costs. Medigap might make sense for someone that wants cost predictability and provider flexibility. Medicare Advantage makes sense for someone that prefers lower premiums and are okay with networks and cost-sharing. The goal is finding the best match for the healthcare and financial situation needs of the client.
How do Medicare Advantage plans make money if many have $0 premiums?
Answer: Medicare Advantage plans receive a monthly payment from CMS for each member that is enrolled. The payments are based on factors such as health status and star ratings. If those factors are managed effectively, there can be a zero dollar premium and it will still gain revenue. Just because the premium is zero, doesn’t mean that the plan itself doesn’t receive funding from CMS.
If I already have part A and am already terminal on hospice care, do I need to get on part B and go through the MAPD/MedSup enrollment process?
Answer: If someone is already enrolled in Medicare Part A and is receiving hospice care, Medicare Part A covers hospice services. You are not required to enroll in Part B in order to receive hospice benefits.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: A Medicare agent serves as your personal guide through the Medicare process. Medicare can be confusing, with different enrollment periods, plan options, costs, and coverage rules. An agent helps you understand your choices, compare plans from multiple carriers, and find coverage that fits your healthcare needs and budget. Most importantly, a Medicare agent works to simplify the process and provide personalized guidance so you can make confident decisions about your healthcare coverage.
