Q&A with Carla Butler
So with all these 2025 Medicare changes, should I be switching plans or staying put?
Answer: With all the 2025 Medicare changes, it really comes down to whether your current plan still meets your needs and budget. It’s smart to review your options so you can either stay confident in your coverage or make a move that better fits you.
Can you explain Special Needs Plans in Medicare?
Answer: Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are special types of Medicare Advantage plans designed for people with specific health conditions, limited income, or who live in certain facilities. They offer tailored benefits, coordinated care, and extra support to help meet your unique health needs.
Is the Medicare Extra Help program expected to change in 2026?
Answer: As of now, there are no announced major changes specifically to the Medicare Extra Help program for 2026.
What imbalance exists in prescription drug spending, and how has it impacted overall costs?
Answer: Some specialty drugs account for most of the spending; it raises the overall Medicare costs even though most people use low-cost generics.
What do you enjoy most about working with Medicare clients?
Answer: What I enjoy most about working with Medicare clients is helping them feel like that can trust me while I help find a plan that fits their budget and health.
Can you help me understand Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) limits in Medicare plans, from your experience as an agent?
Answer: The Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) is the yearly limit on what you’ll pay for covered services in a Medicare Advantage plan, and once you reach it, the plan pays 100% of your covered costs for the rest of the year.
I chose Original Medicare to keep my doctors, but now I'm drowning in bills. Should I have gone with Advantage instead?
Answer: Original Medicare lets you see almost any doctor, but the bills can add up fast since there’s no yearly limit. Medicare Advantage usually costs less out-of-pocket, but you have to stick with in-network doctors. The right choice depends on whether you care more about doctor choice or keeping costs predictable.
Are Medicare Advantage plans really "free," or is that just clever marketing?
Answer: Medicare Advantage plans aren’t truly “free” — you may not pay a premium, but you’ll still have costs like your Part B premium, copays, and deductibles.
What should I do if I find out that my preferred hospital isn't in-network with my Medicare Advantage plan?
Answer: If you find out that your preferred hospital isn’t in-network with your Medicare Advantage plan, you should talk to your agent about switching to a plan that includes your hospital. This should be done during open enrollment or certain special periods.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Working with a Medicare agent makes the whole process easier. Medicare can be confusing, but an agent explains your options in simple terms, saves you time by comparing plans, and helps you find the best value for your budget.
