I'm turning 65 next month; what are the first steps I should take regarding Medicare enrollment?
Answer: Make sure you are enrolled in Medicare A&B is the 1st step. Then get a list of your Providers & Medications (Including dosages) together and have an agent use that information to help educate you on the differences between medicare Supplement + Drug plan vs. Medicare Advantage. Then decide on which way you want to proceed.
Are visits with psychologists, social workers, or psychiatrists included in Medicare coverage?
Answer: Yes. Medicare covers at 80%. Most Medicare advantage plans will cover visits as well with a co-pay. Typically between $20 & $40
I went with Medigap because I travel a lot, but now I'm paying a fortune in premiums. Did I make a mistake?
Answer: Medigap plans do give you the flexibility to travel since they are secondary to Medicare. The provider only needs to accept Medicare and you can use your Medigap plan to fill in. There are many Medicare Advantage plans that are PPOs that help with the network issues and they can be significant less expensive or even $0.00 monthly premium; however the costs associated with using the plan may be significantly higher even when including the Medigap plan’s premium and what ever exposures it has. But if you are reasonably healthy they could be a very viable option
