Q&A with Rebecca Bilbrey
What benefits are there to working with a Medicare Agent near me vs remote/virtual?
Answer: The biggest benefit of working with a local agent is that you can see the agent face-to-face in their office or in your home. And if you are not tech savvy, the local agent can have you sign required documents in paper format rather than e-signing.
So with all these 2025 Medicare changes, should I be switching plans or staying put?
Answer: Every individual has their own situation. Some people will need to change while others will not. Talking with an agent will help you figure that out.
If I need long-term care in the future, how does Medicare fit into that plan, and what should I be doing now to prepare?
Answer: When you need long-term care, the only way Medicare pays any part of it is if you need medical attention to recover from something; and even then the coverage is very limited (no more than 100 days in a skilled nursing facililty, and you have daily copays). The best way to prepare for needing long-term care services (help with eating, bathing, toileting, transferring, dressing, or continence), is to get a long-term care insurance policy or a life insurance policy with a long-term care rider or an annuity with a long-term care rider BEFORE you are excluded due to your health. Most people wait until it is too late and then cannot get through underwriting OR cannot afford the premiums which are determined based on your age. Even if you want your family to take care of you, a long-term care plan is a good idea because your family will need help or you'll break them. Being a full-time caregiver with no assistance is incredibly hard on someone's health.
Do I need a Hospital Indemnity Plan if I have Medicare Advantage? What if I am hospitalized twice in the same year?
Answer: A hospital indemnity plan to work with your Medicare Advantage plan is a good idea. Your Medicare Advantage plan will have daily copays (or at least per-stay copays) and the hospital indemnity plan can pay those for you. Most policies will pay more than once in a year as long as you have been out of the hospital for a set amount of days (differs per policy) before needing to go back in the hospital. Hospital indemnity policy premiums are usually inexpensive.
