Q&A with Nikki Reid

I need a hearing aid but I've heard Medicare doesn't cover them. Is there any way around this?

Answer: The only way around this would be to look into an advantage plan. Many Medicare Advantage Plans Part C offer coverage on hearing aids and extra benefits :)

Am I responsible for an IRMAA surcharge?

Answer: It depends on your income and whether your Medicare advantage plan includes drug coverage. If you are enrolled in part B and/or a Medicare advantage plan with drug coverage and your income from 2 years ago was above a certain amount.

Why do doctors not like Medicare Advantage plans?

Answer: MA plans are run by private insurance companies, not traditional Medicare and take longer in processing claims. MA require prior authorizations which is a lot of paperwork and MA have limited networks.
