Q&A with Jose Silva
Can I show my Original Medicare Card instead of my Medicare Advantage card, if my provider doesn't take my advantage insurance?
Answer: No, once you are a medicare advantage client, your original medicare cards are not used. Medicare Advantage takes over your original Medicare. You don't lose your original medicare benefits, but they are now tied to medicare advantage. But you can always return to Original Medicare.
What's the financial risk of sticking with Original Medicare without a Medigap plan?
Answer: With original medicare there is no hospital out of pocket max which can cost you thousands if you go to the hospital at least twice in a year. Medigap will cover those expenses that medicare wont. Example 20% coinsurance, hospital $1725 deductible every time you go to hospital if its 90 days apart etc...
I picked a Medicare Advantage plan based on the low premium, but now I'm facing high copays. Did I make a mistake?
Answer: Unfortunately some plans have 0 premium but they come with high copays, or deductibles or out of pocket max. When picking a plan is good to look at the plan in its entirety and see if its better to pay higher premium and lower copays or out of pocket max. Some clients dont want the higher premium due to they don't really go to the doctor alot.
Every year I stress over picking a plan and still end up surprised by the bills. Is there any way to just get peace of mind with Medicare?
Answer: Peace of mind comes with knowing your Medicare Plan. Once you know what to expect and the agent explained it to you and you feel comfortable with the plan then it should not be an issue. Knowing takes away the stress and builds confidence. Let an agent explain it.
If my parent needs care at a hospital out of state, will their coverage still work?
Answer: It all depends on your plan. With original medicare yes no problem. But if you have medicare advantage it all depends on the plans. If its HMO you might need to go a in network but if its PPO then you can go but might have to pay more out of pocket.
My parent takes several brand name prescriptions, how do we know which plan saves the most money overall?
Answer: As an agent we can input all the medicines in the platform. Once they are all submitted it will inform us what carriers are the best and save the most money to better assist you.
If we choose a Medicare Advantage plan and later regret it, can we go back to Original Medicare without penalties?
Answer: Yes you can return to original medicare. You usually have to do it during the annual enrollment period or Open Enrollment period.
What happens if my specialist leaves the network in the middle of the year?
Answer: It all depends on your plan. You might need to find another Specialist in network or you might be able to use the same one if you have a PPO plan and pay out of network prices.
