Q&A with Jesse Martinez

Am I eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if I lose employer coverage?

Answer: Yes, you are available for a SEP with loss of Credible coverage. If you don’t currently have part B Medicare you typically have 8 months to get signed up without penalty. You also only have 63 days to get enrolled in a Part D (prescription drug plan) or Medicare advantage plan before penalty’s can accrue.

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: I enjoy taking the stress away that choosing a Medicare plan can cause for people. This is something that changes constantly and being able to guide people to make the choices that are best for them makes me happy.

I'm on Medicare Part B, and I'm wondering how my physical therapy visits are covered. Do I have to hit my deductible first?

Answer: There are a few variables that go into that. Depending if you’re on original Medicare only or on an advantage plan. Most advantage plans allow physical therapy with the pre approval from a doctor for a specific copayment usually around $20-$40 per session. If you’re only on Part B ( no advantage plan) you will have to pay your deductible first usually around $240 or so. After that Medicare will cover 80% and you will pay the remaining 20% of the physical therapy cost.

If you had to pick just one, what's the worst Medicare-related decision someone can make?

Answer: Not speaking to an agent that you trust. Never use call centers to help you pick your plan. They usually are not from your area and don’t know what plans are best for your individual needs.
