Jeff Leichter, Medicare Insurance Agent

About Me

My name is Jeffrey Leichter. I’m a husband to Shannon, dad to Ayden and August, and dog‑dad to Chloe and Millie. Family is the center of everything I do. I run an insurance and Medicare agency in Spartanburg with over 9 years of experience, where my goal is to help people feel confident and supported when making big decisions. I’m constantly working on personal growth, building better habits, and creating systems that make life smoother. Coaching youth sports, serving my community, and being present for my family are the things that keep me grounded.

Q&A with Jeff Leichter

Do husband and wife each pay their own Medicare premiums, or is there a family plan option?

Answer: Great Question, unlike traditional group insurance or family plan insurance, Medicare Is individual premiums and plans, however some Private Medigap plans will give household discounts on individual premiums.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Working with a local independent agent makes a huge difference. When you put your information online, you’re basically guaranteeing you’ll get flooded with calls because those sites sell your data. Independent agents don’t do that. You get personal service, real guidance, and someone who actually knows your local hospital systems, networks, and how plans work in your area.

A call center can’t give you that. The people on the phones are reading off a script, and you’re just another number in the queue. With a local agent, the service is free and the insurance company you choose pays us to help you — and you get someone who actually understands your doctors, your hospitals, and your community. You also get consistency. You work with the same person year after year, not a new stranger every time you call.

And it’s important to be careful. There are a lot of scammers, bait‑and‑switch tactics, and misleading online ads out there. Sticking with a trusted local independent agent protects you from all of that and gives you real support from someone who’s actually invested in your well‑being.

I’m on Humana Medicare. Customer service pre-approved a nuclear stress test, but I just got a $780 bill. They escalated it over a week ago and never called back. Do I have to pay? How do I file a complaint?

Answer: The best practice when you get a medical bill is to call your insurance company with the bill in hand. Over the last ten years, I’ve seen that about 90% of billing problems come down to coding errors or simple mistakes. I’ve called support with my clients many times, and the insurance company will usually reach out, settle the claim, or verify whether the cost is accurate.

Most of the time, the issue isn’t the care you received — it’s your plan design. If you have a high deductible, coinsurance, or copays, those out‑of‑pocket costs can stack up fast. That’s why I recommend adding a hospital indemnity plan to help cover those expenses and give you a financial buffer when you need it most.
