Q&A with Frank Fuss

Part A Inpatient Hospital deductible $1,676 but if I have Part C Advantage Plan, the hospital $350 copay per day 1-7 so how does this work?

Answer: Your hospital stay can cost you as much at $2450 on that Advantage plan, but if you are only in the hospital for a day or two, you are limited to only $350 to $700... It is a bit of a gamble which is why we recommend Hospital indemnity to cover some if not all of the cost of being hospitalized. It is important to know how the carrier covers your hospitalization as well... Are you there under observation or actually inpatient? This can be very confusing when you receive the bill which is why it is good to work with an agent that can help should you need it.

I'm confused by all the star ratings for Medicare plans. Do they actually mean anything for the care I'll receive?

Answer: The Star Ratings are ABSOLUTELY important to consider when choosing a plan. CMS evaluates plans across many metrics. For Medicare Advantage plans and Part D, the performance measures are grouped into main categories, including: Preventive care & screenings (staying healthy), Management of chronic conditions, Member experience with care/access to services, Plan responsiveness, customer service, complaints and disenrollments. For plans that include drug coverage: prescription‑drug services, drug safety, adherence, pricing and member satisfaction. ALL of these categories contribute to the overall star rating and the carriers that care the most and uphold the highest of standards often receive the best ratings. Trust me, it matters.

Should there be stricter regulations on Medicare Advantage marketing and sales practices?

Answer: Yes, call centers should be regulated and banned from making outbound unwanted marketing calls. Advertising on tv and radio have confused a lot of seniors and tricked them into thinking they are missing out on certain benefits.

What's the most cost-effective way for a healthy 65-year-old to structure their Medicare coverage?

Answer: This is different for each individual. While being cost sensitive is important, it is just as important to make sure you are covered correctly now, but with the future in mind as well. This is not a one size fits all kind of business. You need to take into consideration your current health, family history, financial position and outlook, longevity, and lifestyle. Just as having the right coverage can protect you, having the wrong plan can cost you thousands. Each Medicare beneficiary should have at minimum, coverage beyond original Medicare and include a prescription drug plan, a Medicare Advantage or Supplement plan. Other considerations for Hospital Indemnity, cancer, heart attack, stroke, and accidental injury coverage should also be made. Many people also overlook the need for dental, vision and hearing in their coverage as well. Having a dental plan that pays for your preventative visits is extremely valuable as well.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Great question! While you certainly can do this on your own, but you likely will only do it one time. I have helped thousands of people navigate the Medicare maze over the last 12 years. Working with an experienced, trusted agent can help ensure that you will make the decision that is right for your individual needs. I consider myself to be one of the best in the business and regularly attend conferences related to my business to make sure I am well educated and positioned to serve my clients as an expert. I take the business of your health and retirement happiness VERY seriously. My agency book of business was built as a referral only agency, meaning you either are referred to my agency by a friend or area professional, or you happen to find me on google and found my 5 star rating compelling enough to reach out to me. We do not make outbound marketing calls and I only advertise through networking groups, a local radio station, and as a sponsor of the Eric Zane Podcast.
