Q&A with Dina Green

My income is limited. Are there programs that can help pay my Medicare premiums?

Answer: Yes. Depending on your income and resources, you may qualify for programs that help pay Medicare costs. These include Medicare Savings Programs, Extra Help for prescription drug costs, and, for some individuals, Medicaid.

I'd be happy to help determine whether you may qualify and point you in the right direction. If additional assistance is needed, I can also refer you to the appropriate state agency or local resources that can help with the application process.

I take care of my elderly parent. Can I get paid as their caregiver?

Answer: I understand many family caregivers wonder about this. Some states have programs that may allow family members to be paid caregivers, but eligibility and requirements vary. Since this falls outside my area of expertise, I recommend speaking with your state's Medicaid office or Area Agency on Aging to learn what programs may be available. If you have questions about Medicare or health insurance, I'm always happy to help.

I'm hesitant to share personal or financial information with an insurance agent. Is my information safe with you?

Answer: I completely understand your concern. Protecting your personal information is a responsibility I take seriously. As a licensed insurance agent, I follow federal and state privacy laws and carrier requirements designed to safeguard your personal and financial information.

If you're more comfortable handling things yourself, I also offer self-enrollment options for plans that allow it, while remaining available to answer questions along the way. For clients who prefer a more personal experience, I'm happy to meet in person or by secure video appointment so you can get to know me before sharing sensitive information.

I also encourage prospective clients to visit my Facebook page, where you can learn more about me, my business, and how I serve my community. I believe trust is built through relationships, and I want you to feel comfortable and confident before making any insurance decisions.

Can I have both Medicare and Medicaid at the same time?

Answer: Yes. If you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, you can have both at the same time. People who have both are often called "dual eligible." Medicare generally pays first for covered services, and Medicaid may help pay certain costs such as premiums, deductibles, copayments, or services that Medicare doesn't fully cover, depending on your state's Medicaid program.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: I enjoy helping people understand Medicare because I know how confusing it can be. Every client has different doctors, medications, and priorities, so I take the time to listen before discussing plan options. I want my clients to feel confident in their decisions and know they have someone they can call if they have questions in the future. I am available nonbusiness hours for the convenience of my clients.
