Q&A with Dalton Johnson
What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?
Answer: I enjoy receiving calls from seniors or health clients after I've helped them. It brings me joy to hear how I've made a difference, whether by saving them money during tough times or helping them afford a procedure they needed. Knowing that I've contributed to improving the lives of seniors, especially when so many others fall short, makes me happy. I feel privileged to play a small role in caring for the generation that once took care of us.
How will the recent attention & auditing around Medicare Advantage plans effect nursing home coverage?
Answer: I'm not quite sure! In my opinion, this situation has the potential to go both ways—good and bad. On the positive side, I can see individuals who have previously been denied coverage by certain carriers gaining approval after a closer examination or audit of their individual circumstances. On the downside, I’m concerned that some people who genuinely need nursing facilities might be denied coverage based on their current health conditions.
Ultimately, healthcare is constantly changing and evolving. While we hope these changes lead to improvements, they don't always yield the best outcomes. However, I believe that if these changes negatively impact our senior clients, there will be prompt and precise actions taken to address the issues.
What's a red flag in a phone call that it might be a Medicare scam targeting my personal info?
Answer: Every Sunday, we have lunch at my grandparents' house, and they often share stories about the phone calls they've received that week regarding Medicare. Some of them are absolutely absurd!
Most recently, my grandfather mentioned that he received a call from someone who insisted that his Medicare red, white, and blue card was expiring. They asked him for the card number so they could send a new one. The caller also claimed they worked for the federal government. Be cautious of these types of calls!
