Q&A with Carolee Turner

I have Original Medicare, and I'm wondering if I'd save more on my dental cleanings if I switched to a Medicare Advantage plan instead.

Answer: Yes you would. Medicare only covers medically necessary services. A stand alone dental plan can cost money. Be sure when considering a Medicare Advantage that your doctors and specialists are in network. Make sure when considering a MA that there is dental embedded in the plan and that it covers your specific needs, such as cleanings, root canals or dentures.

I'm enrolled in a Medigap Plan F, and I'm not sure how my emergency room visits are handled. Is there a copay I should expect?

Answer: Medicare Plan F, If it is NOT a HIGH DEDUCTABLE F Plan, will have no copay or Co-insurance billing. To make sure you have the full coverage Medicare Suppliment Plan F, simply call the number on the back of your card. Full Medicare Suppliment Plan F is the most care you can possibly have at this time. You should not recieve any bill for your medical care as long as the facility also accepts MEDICARE for their payment.

My Medicare Advantage plan covers dental, but I can't find a dentist who accepts it. Is this a common problem?

Answer: Not necessarily, depending on the Insurance company utiliized and the member portal if the member understands how it works. Many new and old members of United Healthcare have been educated on how to search the directory on their member portal by their local agents outreach and the education during the enrollment process. We also hold member appreciation meetings bi-annually to continue with the latest news and updates for our members. If a member already has a dentist they prefer to deal with, and the dentist is not in the network, the dentist can charge 15 percent higher than the negotiated rate of the insurance company. However, if the member files a claim through their member portal, they will be reimbursed for the rate the insurance company will pay for certain procedures. This varies upon each insurance company and their limitations & exclusions of course.

I'm on an expensive specialty medication. Will the 2025 Part D changes help someone in my situation?

Answer: CMS, Centers for Medicare Services has removed the "Donut Hole" In 2025 for all stand alone Part D plans and Medicare Advantage Plans across the board. Instead of the $8000 out-of-pocket max, it is now just $2000 out-of-pocket max. This includes any deductible paid. It is best to find a local agent who can give you the monthly, quarterly and annual figure of all your drugs, including any deductible incurred. Every formulary differs and the cost reflects this, so shopping for the plan which is a best fit for you is best with a trusted local agent in your area.
