Q&A with Caleb Pearson

Are Medicare Advantage plans really "free," or is that just clever marketing?

Answer: This is a question that I get asked often. Yes, there are Medicare Advantage plans that have a $0 monthly premium, that doesn’t mean they’re completely “free.” You still have to pay your Medicare Part B premium (unless it's covered by a program you qualify for), and there can be out-of-pocket costs like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles when you use services.

The $0 premium plans can be a great option depending on your healthcare needs and budget, but it’s important to look closely at the plan’s coverage, provider network, and maximum out-of-pocket limits.

I always recommend taking the time to meet with an independent Medicare agent (over the phone or in person) to review your plan options.

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: What I enjoy most about being a local Medicare agent is the opportunity to truly connect with people in my community and help them navigate an often confusing system. Medicare can feel overwhelming, especially when you're trying to make the best decision for your health and budget. I love being able to simplify the process, answer questions clearly, and provide personalized support that’s just a phone call or visit away. Knowing that I’ve helped someone feel more confident and secure in their coverage—that’s incredibly rewarding.
