Q&A with Alyssa Burgos
For Medicare Part D, why would someone pick a plan with a high total cost?
Answer: You would only pick that if it makes sense to all the medications you take to cover your prescriptions. Best to speak to an agent to veify your medications to confirm the best overall cost for the year.
I applied for a Medigap plan and got denied because of my health history-how is that even legal when I've paid into Medicare for years?
Answer: Medigap plans require you to get on a plan right when you get A and B or when you turn 65. They will underwrite you when you were on a Medicare Advantage plan previously.
What's a red flag in a phone call that it might be a Medicare scam targeting my personal info?
Answer: I would personally not ever talk to anyone calling you about Medicare. Lots of rules for agents talking to you. You have to contact an agent to talk to you, we can’t personally call you. It’s against CMS rules.
How will advancements in wearable health tech (like smartwatches) integrate with Medicare?
Answer: Yes, a few plans give you wellness bucks to buy a smart watch. Not all plans have this, but some do.
I've been on a Part D plan for a while, and I'm wondering why my generic prescriptions suddenly cost more. Did something change?
Answer: Medications went up this year due to the insurance companies picking up more of the cost. The government not paying as much to the insurance carriers. Make sure to reach out to a broker to look at your coverage for 2026 in October to review all your medications and pick the right plan to pay the least cost.
What is the biggest mistake seniors make when enrolling in Medicare?
Answer: They don't talk to an agent wil a wealth of knowledge. Being able to see all plans that fit your needs and not calling from an AD on TV.
