Q&A with Wendy Zapata
How do you approach educating clients who are new to Medicare versus those who are considering switching plans?
Answer: Good morning
Every person has a different set of needs. I have a conversation with each individual and let them know what plans are available to them in their County. I break this down for them including network choices if this is important. This applies to the “new to MediCare” as well as folks wanting a plan change or options.
My doctor wants me to try acupuncture for my back pain. Will Medicare cover any of this?
Answer: Yes MediCare covers acupuncture for chronic lower back pain. So part b would cover a certain amount of treatments. Also some Medicare advantage plans offer acupuncture coverage.
I want to get a shingles vaccine. Will Medicare cover this preventive service?
Answer: Yes Medicare now covers the shingle vaccine. Remember it’s a series of 2 vaccines. So prepare for this.
Why is the new $2,000 out-of-pocket maximum for drug costs important?
Answer: Good morning
This is important because it limits the out of pocket costs and has eliminated the coverage gap which was very expensive to many.
Will I be penalized if I do not enroll in Medicare when I turn 65?
Answer: Good morning- this depends upon if you are employed and if your employer provides your medical insurance and will they require you to enroll in MediCare or not. If you are self insured then most likely if you do not enroll during your initial enrollment period you can be penalized on part b and part d. I hope this is helpful.
