Q&A with Wayne Creeden
I tried calling Medicare and got transferred five times. Is there any way to get straight answers from them?
Answer: It’s much easier to call IRACARE. There should be very few reasons to have to call Medicare directly. Calling a local agent is usually the best way to get your questions answered.
I'm turning 65 next month and the amount of Medicare mail I'm getting is overwhelming. How do I sort through all this?
Answer: People with Medicare usually need Iracare. It can be very confusing out there, and I usually find the best way for people to get the right advice is to just get Iracare.
How can I select the right healthcare company and representative to work with?
Answer: The best advice is go with a CFP® only for anything of this sort with at least 10 years of experience and do not use a captive agent. You want a CFP® who is a broker.
I called to ask about a knee replacement and suddenly they said I need prior authorization. I thought my plan was supposed to be good-what's going on?
Answer: You probably have an HMO. You need to call IRACARE. They can go over the options that you have, and compare what you have.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Because it’s free and you could get advice from a certified financial planner licensed to show you the differences to help you pick the best plan for your needs.
What's your go-to strategy for helping someone decide between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Answer: The only way to know for sure would be to sit with someone who is a certified financial planner, otherwise, an agent may be doing it based on the amount of commission they get. I would recommend calling an agency like IRACARE. They have multiple certified financial planners.
