Q&A with Taylor Blankenship
What's the most important question I should be asking about Medicare that I probably haven't thought of yet?
Answer: What are the most important things you need out of your medical plan? Are my doctors in network with the plan? Do I have the best drug coverage with this plan? Do you have an agent ready to put in the work to make sure you’re getting your full benefits from a plan?
What's the trade-off between a Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO when it comes to flexibility?
Answer: -PPO- More flexibility! You can typically go to an out of network doctor more easily.Great if you want choices. Unfortunately PPO’s usually cost more.
- HMO- Less flexible but cheaper. You pick a primary care physician, need referrals for specialists, and can only go to network providers (unless it’s an emergency).
So, if you’re all about freedom and don’t mind paying a bit more, go PPO. If saving money is key, and you’re okay with some limitations, HMO is your jam! Just like picking between adventure or comfort—choose what fits you best.
Hey, I keep hearing about Medicare Advantage plans everywhere. What's the real deal with those compared to regular Medicare?
Answer: Regular or “Original Medicare” only cover part A- Hospital and part B-Medical
Usually with Original Medicare you have to add on a drug plan and that means you will have a few different premiums. Original Medicare also does not include an Out Of Pocket Maximum… So you take on a bunch of risk if you was to ever have an extended stay or a high Hospital bill.
Medicare Advantage plans make things a lot simpler, like combining your Hospital, Medical and Drug coverage all in one. With one premium payment, some Medicare Advantage plans also have a $0.00 premium and these plans usually have built in perks like Dental, Silver Sneakers/ Gym membership, Over the counter benefits and more. Plus there are a ton of plans to choose from with all different and trusted carriers, make sure you have an agent that can go over the details of the plan and make sure your doctors and medications are covered.
Is it better to get Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage?
Answer: Everyone’s situation is different so in reality we would need to sit down and go over the options and compare. But in most cases Medicare Advantage plans have more benefits with great Drug coverage.
What should I do with my Medicare plan if I'm diagnosed with a rare disease requiring specialists?
Answer: They make special plans that have benefits that help people in your position. You may want to sit down with a agent and go over some C-Snip plans in your area.
