Q&A with Staci Moore

I've heard Medicare covers home health care, but what exactly does that include?

Answer: Hi there! If a beneficiary qualifies, Medicare Part A and/or B my cover; Skilled Nursing, Physical therapy, Occupational Therapy, speech-language pathology, Home Health Aide Services(limited). Qualification hinges on the provider(or other authorized practitioner) to certify that the patient needs skilled care. Additionally, if the patient is homebound, the care is intermittent and the services are provided through a Medicare-certified home health agency, then the beneficiary will generally qualify for at home care.

Medicare does not pay for 24hr care at home, meal prep(unless its directly related to the care needed), housekeeping or laundry, transportation, long-term personal care(bathing, dressing or supervision when no skilled services are needed).

Hope that helps.

I'm living solely on Social Security of $1,400 monthly and can't afford my Medicare premiums and copays. What assistance programs might help someone in my situation?

Answer: Thanks for reaching out! Based on what you've shared, you may qualify for programs that help lower your Medicare costs. Many people with limited income are eligible for assistance through their state Medicaid office or the Medicare Savings Programs, which can help pay Part B premiums and, in some cases, deductibles, coinsurance and copays. You may also qualify for the Extra Help program which helps reduce Medicare Part D prescription drug costs.

Eligibility depends on factors such as income, assets and where you live, so I'd be happy to review your situation and help determine which programs you may qualify for or direct you to the appropriate resources. May I ask what state you live in?

My Medicare Advantage plan covers dental, but I can't find a dentist who accepts it. Is this a common problem?

Answer: Not typically. It depends on where you live and what plan you have. Would like help finding an in network provider in your area?
