Q&A with Sharie Rutherford

Does Medicare cover Alzheimer's disease treatment?

Answer: Coverage depends on the service involved. Visits with doctors, neurologists, cognitive testing, brain scans are typically covered. Prescription medications can be very helpful and are covered if mild cognitive or early stage Alzheimers is diagnosed. Medicare however does not cover long term custodial care like a memory care facility which is one of the largest challenges families face. Resources are available for further understanding of this devastating disease.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Agents are able to drill down on intricacies that are often not available on websites or through 1-800 numbers. It's those fine details - provider nuances, formulary exceptions, networking considerations, underwriting guidelines, and real-world plan experiences - that can make the difference for a client.
