Prior to moving permanently to Vancouver, my wife and I had an established relationship with an insurance professional specializing in Medicare supplemental insurance. We dreaded having to enter into a new relationship with a person as knowledgeable of Medicare and insurance needs of seniors. Then we just happened upon Carly and immediately developed a relationship of safety and trust. Recently as age often forces greater needs of seniors we had to qualify my wife for Medicaid as she moved into an adult family home. Carly was right there with us in the process of gaining Medicaid approval. We’ve had a five star relationship with Carly and endorse her without doubt to serve your needs as well. I highly recommend Karen for your senior insurance needs! She's helped me navigate the overwhelming undertaking of transitioning to Medicare and additional coverage (supplemental and prescription plans). There are so many options to consider and she is able to walk you through all of it. She's patient and kind and very knowledgeable! I enjoyed our work time together.

Q&A with Sean Cusack
How do you educate clients who are completely new to Medicare?
Answer: Hello,
A good way to learn the basics of Medicare is to attend a local seminar or go to Medicare.gov. A good place to start would be to learn the basic costs of Medicare. What does Medicare cover and what are your costs in different situations. Also, what different products are available to you beyond Original Medicare.
Can Medicare pay for my groceries?
Answer: Hello,
Medicare in itself does not cover things like groceries. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer benefits that can help with things like groceries or utilities. These benefits do have certain requirements to be met, though.
Who qualifies for Medicare coverage if they are under 65?
Answer: The people who qualify for Medicare under 65 are people that have been on Social Security disability for 24 months and people with end-stage renal disease.
If a senior is turning 65 but still working, should they enroll in Medicare or delay it?
Answer: If you are going to continue working and get health insurance through your employer, all you need to do is sign up for Part A. It is important that you check with your employer to make sure your health coverage is considered creditable, though. It means that your health and prescription coverage is equal or greater coverage than Medicare offers. If it is not creditable, then you will need to sign up for Part B & D to avoid any late enrollment penalties.
Thanks.
When will my provider send my Annual Notice of Change?
Answer: Good morning. The healthcare companies usually send out the notice of change in September. Most people receive the notice of change towards the end of the month, but no later than October 1st.
How can I lower my Medicare Part B premium if my income drops after retirement?
Answer: When you first sign up for Part B, the rate you pay is determined from your last two years of income. When your income goes down after retirement, you can fill out the income-related adjustment form (SSA-44). This form can be found on the SSA.gov website. It will be under the Medicare tab. Choose forms, and you will find it.
Thanks.
I've been diagnosed with prediabetes. What preventive services does Medicare cover to help prevent progression to type 2 diabetes?
Answer: Yes, Medicare does offer services to help prevent type 2 diabetes. The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) Expanded Model provides a structured intervention for individuals with prediabetes. This program includes 16 intensive core sessions and 6 follow-up maintenance sessions, focusing on dietary changes, physical activity, and weight management. Additionally, Medicare covers diabetes screenings and other preventive services for individuals at risk.
Can Medicare Part D deny coverage for a brand-name drug if a generic isn't available?
Answer: Yes, Medicare can deny coverage for a brand-name drug even if no generic equivalent is available. While Medicare drug plans generally cover both generic and brand-name drugs, they may have rules about which drugs are covered and how they are covered, often favoring generics. If a plan's formulary (list of covered drugs) doesn't include a specific brand-name drug, even if no generic exists, the plan may deny coverage.
I'm healthy and barely use my coverage, but I'm still paying more every year. Why isn't there a discount for people like me?
Answer: Hello,
Good question. Unfortunately, the cost of your health plan is not based on what your health is currently. It is based on the cost of services amongst a large group of people. Hopefully, this helps answer your question.
What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?
Answer: Helping seniors is the best part about my job. I really enjoy giving back to the elders in my community. This job allows me to help my clients in a variety of ways. Best of all, my services are free.
