Q&A with Scott Walker

Will I lose my Medicare benefits if I get married?

Answer: No. Getting married does not normally cause you to lose Medicare. If you are entitled to Medicare based on your own work record and are age 65+, your Medicare eligibility generally continues regardless of whether you marry. Be aware that Medicare Part B and Part D premiums can be higher because of IRMAA if your income is high enough. After marriage, your tax filing status may change, so your joint household income can affect future IRMAA calculations.
