My appointment with Scott Simms went beautifully. He helped me find an insurance that had both of my specialty providers on it and he helped me find an insurance in network for my primary care provider too. Helping me get established with a new PCP and calling them to get set up was beyond anything I would have expected and I was very appreciative of Scott doing that for me. This overall was a great experience and I would recommend Scott and his office to anyone looking for help with Medicare Advantage Plans.

Scott Sims is one of the most professional and informed Medicare insurance specialists there is in the entire state plain and simple. He has many years of experience in this field and works diligently to stay abreast of all changes within the program and how the companies current offerings meet the needs of his clients. What he additionally has is something money can’t buy and that is a genuine care and commitment to his customers, he will put you first it is just who he is. He also takes the time and care to explain your options in a manner you will understand and is not pushy allowing you time to mull over your options and make the best decision for you. I can’t recommend Scott highly enough and am grateful he is in this complex field, we all eventually have to navigate.

My Wife was able to use Scott to start her Medicare plan and we found out just how easy-going and well-versed Scott was for our needs. Since then, I have turned 65 And in the same fashion, Scott took care of me with a plan that I’m super happy with. Which included the same doctor I had been seeing. He was very efficient with his explanations, did not rush me in anyway whatsoever. And I was able to check Over and ask any questions that I had without any rush. Thanks Scott. I really enjoy chatting with you and getting this taken care of. You’re the man. Joe

When I wanted to change plans Scott presented one he thought would be the most appropriate for me. He showed me others but the one he showed me first was what I chose. Happy to say, he matched me up with the right plan.

Scot is a very honest, extremely knowledgeable, and hard working guy who puts in a lot of effort to try and always be there for his customers. I know that a person should be cautious when dealing with a broker. Many brokers will just serve their own interests by pushing an agenda to try and enroll you in whatever will serve their own best interests and pay them the highest commission. I have never, ever got that vibe from Scott Sims. Go with Scott. You won't be disappointed. It's free and painless. I was impressed with him from the first video I watched. On a personal note, when I write a review I often get comments that this must be a fake review. I 'm not sure why, it must be something about my writing style. I assure you this is genuine.

Q&A with Scott Sims

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: I love when people come to me confused and leaving my office with understanding and a plan. It's taken many years to get to the point of Medicare knowledge. Not having to reach out to broker managers or other agents for questions is something I take pride in. I enjoy helping people and making them laugh. Many of the folks I help are good, fun people!

What's the most frustrating misconception you have to clear up with clients about Medicare every year?

Answer: With so many plan changes this past year, many people who just let their plan roll into next year have been surprised by benefit changes. I make it clear when I sit down with clients and help them, let's make sure we have a chat or meeting when you get my postcard in the mail in September. These plans can change every year, it's important to review! Drug deductibles have changed this year for many plans, big deal!

Will Medicare cover asthma and other breathing conditions?

Answer: Yes, Medicare will cover different inhalers and meds associated with asthma. It can be covered through Part B and/or Part D Medicare. Some equipment will be covered as durable medical equipment.

Don't you think Medicare should ban all those celebrity Medicare Advantage commercials?

Answer: I think it's their right to make commercials. If they are giving false information and misleading people to think that all plans come with $1,800 in grocery benefits every year, they need to make those things clear. I just make simple commercials and educational videos, which seem to work!

I'm considering concierge medicine but already have Medicare. How would these work together?

Answer: I have met with a local concierge Dr and she requested that if working with Medicare advantage, PPO plans would be a good fit since they are not in-network with the Medicare advantage plans. As of recently, one of the local health plans told me their HMO plan does work with concierge. So it sounds like they are more flexible now, don't need a PPO is what I've been told!

Would expanding Medicare to younger Americans improve or hurt the program?

Answer: I think that Medicare should stay right where its at. 65 and older, or younger with disability. I don't feel it should be for everyone.

I need home health care after my surgery, but Medicare denied coverage. What are my appeal rights?

Answer: You can always appeal. According to the Medicare Rights Center, 80 percent of Medicare Part A appeals and 92 percent of Part B appeals result in coverage for the beneficiary.

My doctor wants me to use a smartphone app for medication management and adherence. Are there any Medicare programs that support this type of digital health solution?

Answer: While there isn't a specific Medicare program dedicated to smartphone apps for medication management, Medicare Advantage plans (MA) can cover digital health solutions, including those that support medication adherence, and some apps are specifically designed for Medicare beneficiaries.

I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and my biologic medication costs $6,000 per month. How will the 2025 Medicare Part D changes affect someone in my situation?

Answer: Since we now have a $2,000 cap on medications for Part D Medicare per year, this person should only be responsible for $2,000 of out of pocket costs. Insurance carrier will pick up the rest of the cost for the year for Part D drugs.

I'm worried about choosing the wrong plan and being stuck with it. How often can I change my Medicare coverage?

Answer: If you like Medicare advantage, you can change between advantage plans every year. If you are on Medicare supplement, some states have the "Birthday Rule" which allows you to change to another supplement carrier with no underwriting 30-60 days within your Birthday. In many circumstances someone has a 12 month trial period with Medicare advantage. That means we can give an advantage plan a, "test run", if you will. We have 12 months to move from advantage to supplement without answering health questions (underwriting).

So with all these 2025 Medicare changes, should I be switching plans or staying put?

Answer: Currently in April, we can't change plans unless we move or have some other Special Enrollment Period, like having a chronic condition (change Medicare advantage plans). So it depends on what time of the year you are talking about. If we are talking currently in April, then we would need an SEP.
