Q&A with Rita Collins

Are Medicare plans and requirements different for every state?

Answer: Yes. Medicare Plan coverage can vary from state to state. Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medicare Drug Plans (Part D), especially. Premiums, deductibles, maximum out-of-pocket expenses, and co-pays can vary greatly, state to state and even county to county within the same state.

What should I do with my Medicare plan if I'm diagnosed with a rare disease requiring specialists?

Answer: A Medicare Advantage Plan will cover a Specialist and costs that may arise in the case of a rare disease or serious illness. All Medicare Advantage Plans also have an MOOP (maximum out-of-pocket) limit for Medical Expenses. That is the maximum you will pay in co-pays per year. Once you have met the MOOP, the plan pays all costs.

I am a resident in another country outside of America, will I still be covered living abroad?

Answer: No. Medicare will not provide coverage while living abroad. You can keep your Medicare active, however, by continuing to pay your Medicare premiums. This will eliminate any issues upon moving back to the United States permanently.

What do you like most about being a Medicare agent?

Answer: I have been a Medicare agent for over 30 years. I love helping people understand their Medicare options and make informed decisions about their Medicare coverage.

What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?

Answer: That not all plans are the same! A Medicare plan that suits your neighbor may not be the best for you.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Working with a Medicare agent is beneficial. Medicare agents undergo yearly training to stay compliant and up-to-date on annual changes to the Medicare program, which benefits you. Working with an Independent agent who represents several plans will help to ensure you are in the Medicare plan that works best for your personal situation. A Medicare plan that suits your neighbor may not be the best one for you.
