Q&A with Pete Randazzo

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Medicare can be a confusing topic for many people with many different pitfalls to avoid.

For example, enrolling late can be a costly mistake as there are life-long penalties involved.

Having a trusted agent or broker to help you through the process can help make the transition to Medicare much easier and a lot less stressful.

It is highly recommended that you work with a broker as a broker will be able to offer you many plans from many different companies so you will have a lot more choices than working with an agent that, say, only works for and offers plans from one company.

In addition, working with a broker costs nothing as the broker is paid by the insurance carrier for helping you enroll with them and explain the plan clearly. Enrolling directly with a carrier can be frustrating as you have no representation when you have problems or issues, just an 800 number with potentially an inexperienced representative on the other end of the phone.

Are mental health services like therapy fully covered under Original Medicare?

Answer: Great question.

While original Medicare does cover mental health and therapy services, it is NOT fully covered by Medicare A and B. You will still have to pay deductibles copays and coinsurance. Part A will cover psychiatric hospital stays of up to 190 total lifetime days. In addition, Part A also covers medication therapy and counseling.

Part B covers outpatient mental health services, psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluations and depression screenings as well. The Part B deductible for 2026 is $283 and must be met before all services apply.
