Q&A with Mike Fields

What is the donut hole, and does it still exist?

Answer: Fortunately, the donut hole no longer exists. It has been replaced with a Maximum amount that you will pay for all prescriptions each year. For 2026 that cap is set at $2100. That means that once your RX costs reach this amount, all RX will be at no cost to you for the remainder of the year.

How do I switch back to Original Medicare from a Medicare Advantage plan, and will I face any penalties or coverage gaps?

Answer: You can move back to Original Medicare, but you should then pick a Prescription Drug Plan and keep Part B, or you may face penalties. Your local agent can look at your current Prescription; let you know the costs and coverage and help you with the switch.
