Q&A with Mike Coliton

I switched to a new Part D plan and now half my meds require prior authorization. Why didn't anyone warn me this could happen?

Answer: Question one: who was your Medicare supplement agent and why didn't you call them?

If you don't have an agent for Medicare supplement, then you painted yourself in this corner.

If your agent who gets paid to serve as your Medicare supplement broker did not contact you shame on them and file a complaint against their license . But, the majority of the carriers no longer contract Agents to assist with part D standalone Drug plans, and those who do can subject themselves to difficult difficulty as many times their EO insurance won't cover them if there's not a fiduciary action involved.

The standalone insurance companies do not want you working with brokers. A broker has a fiduciary obligation to look after your best interest. The insurance companies, most commonly have a fiduciary obligation to the best interest of their shareholders.
