Q&A with Mark Cook

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: It’s certainly not all but a large percentage of people that work with Medicare products do that 12 months out of the year. Personally, I highly recommend independent local Medicare brokers and the reason for that is because they’re going to be more current on federal guidelines and state guidelines and what products are available in your area. They’re also more familiar with the doctors and hospitals that are in network with particular carriers within the unique field of insurance plans related to Medicare products such as Medicare supplements, Medicare advantage plans, and prescription drug plans

Why do some seniors end up paying lifelong penalties for Medicare Part B or Part D?

Answer: Because Medicare Part B and Medicare part D are both ruled by the same insurance philosophy. The rule of large numbers. Everyone needs to participate in order for it to make sense. So the federal government has come up with a set of guidelines that include penalties that are reasonable and equitable that would penalize individuals that when they do qualify for part B and part D, for whatever reason, decide NOT to participate. When these individuals decide not to participate in our communal system that is in place to provide insurance to what should be some of our most protected groups of Americans due to their vulnerability…and that’s our seniors and the subgroup of individuals that are on disability; penalties are a wise deterrent in helping reduce this outcome
