Q&A with Marie Goldbeck-Strunk
How do I know if my prescriptions will cost more next year?
Answer: To know if your prescriptions will cost more next year, You should review the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter sent by your insurance plan. These are sent out in September/October, you should also check the plan's updated formulary for tier changes, and if you do not have an agent/ broker you could use the Medicare Plan Finder to compare 2026 costs/ 2027 cost.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Key Reasons to Use a Independent Medicare Agent
Personalized Guidance:
Agents take the time to understand your specific health needs, lifestyle, and budget to match you with the most suitable Medicare plan.
Simplified Plan Comparison:
Medicare plans are complex; an agent can clarify the differences between various Medicare options, including Medigap plans, to help you make an informed decision.
Expertise and Education:
Licensed agents are trained and knowledgeable about Medicare, its structures, costs, and benefits, allowing them to educate you and answer your questions clearly.
Time and Money Savings:
By providing expert guidance, agents can help you avoid costly mistakes and find plans that offer the best value for your money.
Ongoing Support:
A good agent provides continuous support, assisting you with plan changes during Annual Enrollment Periods and offering guidance on Special Enrollment Periods due to life events.
Navigating Complexity:
The Medicare enrollment process and the variety of plan options can feel overwhelming; an agent can simplify this process, reducing stress and ensuring you feel confident in your choices.
Understanding Your Needs:
A knowledgeable agent will walk you through different scenarios and help you consider overlooked medical needs, ensuring your chosen plan provides comprehensive coverage.
Access to Multiple Options:
Independent Medicare brokers work with multiple insurance companies, giving you access to a wider range of unbiased plan options from various providers.
Face-to-Face Interaction:
Local agents often offer in-person meetings, which can enhance communication and trust, especially for those who prefer a more personal approach
My doctor recommended a bone density test. Is this considered preventive care under Medicare?
Answer: Yes, a doctor-recommended bone density test is considered a preventive care service under Medicare Part B, which covers it once every 24 months if you are at risk for osteoporosis or another related condition. Eligibility for coverage is based on certain factors like being an estrogen-deficient woman at risk, having signs of osteoporosis or vertebral abnormalities on an X-ray, being on steroid medications, or having primary hyperparathyroidism. For your test to be covered, the doctor must certify that it's medically necessary and meets one of these criteria.
