Q&A with Lesley Burns

Answer: Is my Doctor a part of this plan? With the plan that was offered to me, how can I access my benefits?

Answer: As an agent, the most frustrating misconception is helping clients/potential client understand that I am not Medicare. I am a licensed professional working to answer all your questions and get them the best plan possible/available within the client service area.

Answer: I would recommend the client to take all the mail that is specific to their carrier. You will then open them up, looking for the notice "This is not a bill". This particular piece is explaining your charges and benefits available to you. Once you review them, you may discard. Any other documents, you should review. There may be invoices that need to be paid as well as any additional pertinent information the carrier may deem of important that you the client need to have.

Answer: If a potential client is losing employer coverage, yes there is a guaranteed issue right to enroll in a medigap plan.

Answer: The best way to avoid surprise bills for lab tests is to have prior authorization under Medicare Advantage.

Answer: Medicare does not. However, there are private insurance companies that manage Medicare plans that do offer incentives and additional benefits.

Answer: If you choose to relocate, your Medicare coverage will change dependent on the service area in which you relocate.

Answer: The biggest disadvantage of Medicare Advantage are the limitation of provider choices which could affect access to care.

Answer: Medicare doesn't cover Ozempic or other drugs prescribed for weight loss. This does not matter whether the drugs were prescribed for diabetes.

Answer: I would change the process of enrollment. For people who are concerned about retirement, they shouldn't also be concerned with penalties, late enrollments, and additonal fees.

Answer: Yes, Medicare Part D plans can deny coverage for brand-name prescriptions even if a generic isn't available. The plan's formulary may only cover the generic.

Answer: It is recommended to review your plans formulary to confirm whether your medications are covered under the plan or not. When working a licensed agent, they can review the plans in your service area and review the plans formulary to ensure your medications are covered.

Answer: Until your plan is reviewed by a licensed Medicare agent, we can not provide an accurate overview of what your plan will pay for. A licensed Medicare agent can review your plan and provide an update on whether your eye surgery is fully covered or not.
