Q&A with Lauren Singer

What's one piece of advice you wish every senior knew before picking a Medicare plan?

Answer: Finding a medicare plan is like trying on a piece of clothing or a pair of jeans. The same way clothes are tailored to each person differently so is each medicare plan. Each person has different wants and needs so each plan has a different fit for each person, just like the fit of a pair of jeans!!!

Can you describe a time when you helped a client navigate a complex Medicare issue?

Answer: Diabetes care can be complex. Between finding the supplies, or the paperwork or the costs, a few of my clients experienced some issues. I had to find a ads, or an advanced diabetes supplier who helped my clients set up for home delivery as soon as there medicare plans began.

What demographic challenges will Medicare face in the coming years?

Answer: For medicare supplement plans you can have rate increases, and marketships. For medicare advantage plans you have plan changes, one year one area will have a certain plan and then not have it the next year. There are doctors who go in and out of networks. Drug costs change each year for both. This is why every year is is extremely important to look at your plan.

What happens if I am already retired and collecting Social Security when I turn 65?

Answer: For Social Security when you want your benefits to start, which could be as early as age 62 or as late as age 70. If you're already receiving Social Security benefits when you turn 65, you'll be automatically enrolled in Medicare — no need to let Social Security know that your birthday is coming.
