Q&A with Kyle Kokot
What's the most important question I should be asking about Medicare that I probably haven't thought of yet?
Answer: If I am still working and have employer coverage, what are my options? Do you know that you can continue to work and drop your employer coverage and take on Medicare? You can also delay your Medicare and keep employer coverage without any penalties!
Every year I stress over picking a plan and still end up surprised by the bills. Is there any way to just get peace of mind with Medicare?
Answer: Yes! Stick with one agent that is a broker and can offer all the options that are available to you in your area!
I tried calling Medicare and got transferred five times. Is there any way to get straight answers from them?
Answer: I would first say make sure you called the right number for Medicare which is 1 (800) 633-4227. When you call that number make sure to say representative until they actually get someone on the phone.
Is it better to get Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage?
Answer: The question here should be... Is it better to go with a Medigap and part D vs Medicare Advantage part C. When trying to decide this will be based off a few factors.
1. How's your health?
2. Can you afford going the Medigap route?
3. Do you travel often?
There are a few other questions we would ask someone one but it will be different for everyone.
The short answer to this would be there is nothing as good as going with Medicare, supplement and a drug card but on the flipside it is a way more expensive route and weather you are sick or not you will pay premiums.
I'm turning 65 soon, when can I enroll in Medicare?
Answer: If you draw a social security check already then you will be automatically enrolled. If you do not draw social security, then you can enroll into Medicare A&B 3 months before the month you turn 65. For example: If you turn 65 in the month of June then you could enroll into Medicare A&B as early as March1st.
You can submit your application to enroll into Medicare on SSA.gov website. Click on Medicare then click on Apply online
I'm living solely on Social Security of $1,400 monthly and can't afford my Medicare premiums and copays. What assistance programs might help someone in my situation?
Answer: Low-income subsidy by the state you live in or apply for state Medicaid at that income. You can apply for this online at SSA.gov under the Medicare tab dropdown that says Low-income part D extra help
