Q&A with Kim Fisher

What's the most important question I should be asking about Medicare that I probably haven't thought of yet?

Answer: When do I enroll and what type of plan is best for me and my health needs and financial situation? Also do I have to answer health questions when I apply for plans to go along with Medicare.

My Medicare Advantage plan advertised dental coverage, but it barely covers anything. Is this normal?

Answer: All plans are different . Some will cover only dentist that are in the network and other plans cover in and out of the network . Some just cover preventive like cleanings and others cover comprehensive like crowns and root canals.

I'm turning 65 next month; what are the first steps I should take regarding Medicare enrollment?

Answer: Make sure you have already applied for Medicare A and B unless you have credible coverage through group coverage that you can keep because you are continuing to work.

Can you just have A and B and not enroll in anything else and still have good coverage?

Answer: You can but you would not have drug coverage and if you ever enroll in drug plan you will have a penalty of 1% for every month you went without drug coverage. Also regular Medicare does not have a stop loss level where you would be 100% covered.

Do I have to answer health questions when switching from one Supplemental/Medigap plan to another?

Answer: Yes if you first apply when you turn 65 or first go on Medicare part B you will have guaranteed issue. If you later want to change plans you have to go through health questions.
