Joshua Cooper has been extremely helpful with getting me set up with a Medicare supplement and pharmacy plan. He even jumped in and found a much better pharmacy plan for my husband. I highly recommend Joshua and Southern Legacy Senior Benefits!

I love this company. I watched their webinar and once I talked to them on the phone, I was set with Medicare, a supplement and prescription plan. I will be paying less than I have on regular insurance and the copay /deductibles will be next to nothing. Can't wait for March 1st when I start Medicare. Woohoo!

Q&A with Joshua Cooper

I'm turning 65 next month; what are the first steps I should take regarding Medicare enrollment?

Answer: Turning 65 next month I would stop what I am doing and go apply for Medicare Part A and B on SSA.gov. This online application process is very simple and streamlined and can be done from your home. Once you apply they will give you a confirmation code and you can track the processing.

Once you get approved for Medicare you will receive a letter in the mail as well as your Red, White and Blue card. Keep this card in a secure place and contact me to help you understand your options whether a Medicare supplement or a Medicare advantage plan is the right fit for you.

How do you educate clients who are completely new to Medicare?

Answer: When someone is brand new to Medicare it is critical to understand their current health, their risk tolerance, as well as their income and ability to pay premiums.

I always educate New to Medicare individuals on both options for additional coverage being Medicare Supplement (more costly, but generally better quality of care). Or. Medicare advantage (less costly upfront but consist of copays and max out of pocket).

I’ve been on a Part D plan for a while, and I’m wondering why my generic prescriptions suddenly cost more. Did something change?

Answer: In 2024 the inflation reduction act had a major impact on the Medicare space specifically Part D and drug plans. It is important to review your drug plan each year to make sure you are up to date on any relevant changes. This usually can be done within 5-15 minutes for each of our clients.

What is one of the the most common misconceptions people have about Medicare?

Answer: One major misconception people have about Medicare is the miss information on social media or the information they received from a friend or neighbor. Most medicare beneficiaries don’t know that all Medicare supplement plans are standardized meaning each carrier offering Plan G is the exact same coverage at different prices.

Also, many beneficiaries do not realize new plans can get introduced into the market yearly.

Should Medicare cover dental, vision, and hearing, or would that just make it more expensive for everyone?

Answer: If Medicare covered dental, vision and hearing it would increase the cost to tax payers no doubt. These services are provided by independent practices so it is most cost effective for them to be offered through private companies such as Humana, Aetna, Manhattan life etc….
