Q&A with Joseph "Joey" Gutierrez
If someone enrolls in a MAPD C-SNP and gets disenrolled for not providing a CCV form within 60 days, is there a SEP to enroll in another MAPD plan?
Answer: You will be notified and your agent will be notified before 60 days that CCV has not been received and if they are still not able to provide the CCV then there is another SEP available to change your MAPD plan
Isn't it concerning that Medicare Advantage plans are taking over the system?
Answer: Not at all. And they aren't taking over. There is a solid blend of Medicare Advantage and Medigap or Supplement plans, as well as those still on A&B only.
How does moving to a new state affect my Medicare enrollment timeline?
Answer: For a Medicare Advantage, it may trigger a Special Enrollment that will allow you to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan in your new state/county.
My friend got her cataract surgery covered by Medicare, but they didn't cover the lens she wanted. How does that work?
Answer: Medicare covers only things that are medically necessary. Those lenses were probably not warranted as medically necessary.
Can you just have A and B and not enroll in anything else and still have good coverage?
Answer: You can have only A&B. But you will still need D. Good coverage, that depends on your needs and if it is good enough for those needs.
What's your go-to strategy for helping someone decide between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Answer: A thorough needs analysis and benefit comparison and cost comparison where you understand the difference.
I picked a Medicare Advantage plan based on the low premium, but now I'm facing high copays. Did I make a mistake?
Answer: I don't feel a mistake was made. I feel whoever helped you with the new plan did not present it thoroughly with all the additional benefits. But I don't know the exact situation.
Is it ok to work with a Medicare Agent from another state?
Answer: If they are licensed in your state - yes. Is it recommended... No. Historically local agents are there to provide face to face service and understand the local networks best. This is my opinion, and it is up to you to make your own decision using your own criteria.
Is my Medicare deductible supposed change from year to year?
Answer: This is not a "yes" or "no" answer. This is a wait and see. Historically they have changed each year.
How can I estimate my total Medicare costs if I have a chronic condition like diabetes?
Answer: One I can assist with your drug costs because we use a drug cost estimator.
Two depending on the plan, we can review the costs for your services.
