Q&A with Jeff Tomberlin
Will Medicare Advantage plans start offering more digital health tools like apps by 2030?
Answer: Medicare is an ever-changing environment. Seems like there's been more changes in the past couple of years versus the last fifteen years I've been doing this. One thing I always tell my customers, we can really only plan one year at a time. Anything beyond that is pure speculation. That's a really good reason to make sure annually during Annual Enrollment that you know what's in store for the next upcoming year. "What if's" will keep you up and night and cause undue stress. Make good short-term decisions and let plans and carriers run their course.
Is Medicare fraud an issue I should be worried about?
Answer: Even though fraud is prevalent, it's not a new concept. You do have to be more alert than ever. Given new technology, scammers are constantly looking for ways to beat the system. With the addition of AI, they have the capability of keeping you on the phone for a short period of time while recording your voice. After doing this, they can manipulate a recording of your voice that sounds exactly like you and use that to enroll you into a program. One that you probably didn't want. I tell my customers; "you know your friends and family's phone numbers. If you recognize it feel safe answering the call. If not, let it go to voicemail. If it's something that's important, the caller will leave a message."
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Not just any Medicare agent, you want to find a local, reputable agent. If you enroll online, eventually you're going to need customer assistance. It's going to much easier to find the assistance you need if you have a local contact versus a 1-800 corporate number, especially when you start building a relationship with the agent/customer.
