Does Medicare fully cover nursing home care, and are there alternatives?
Answer: Medicare covers the first 20 days of skilled nursing as long as you are showing improvement. Then you will have a daily copay for each day for days 21 to 100 days. If you are not showing improvement every 72 hours that you are there then Medicare stops paying and you have to pay all costs. After 100 days Medicare also stops paying.
There are ways you can cover nursing home, home healthcare or assisted living. You could look into a long term care insurance policy to help cover the costs.
Is my Medicare deductible supposed change from year to year?
Answer: Yes the Medicare deductible usually goes up a little every year. It’s good to check with an agent every year so they can go over the changes and answer your questions.
I'm on a fixed income and struggling to afford my medications. What's this Extra Help program I've heard about for Medicare Part D?
Answer: Extra help can help pay monthly premiums, annual deductibles and prescription co-payments related to a prescription drug plan. Your resources must be limited to $17,600 for a person or $35,130 for a married couple living together.
