Q&A with James Beckstrom

What are my Medicare options if I move into a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?

Answer: The good news is, Moving into a CCRC doesn't change anything about your Medicare options. You keep your Part A and Part B under the same rules as if you were living in Private Residence. Some things to think about. There is a possibility you may qualify for A special Enrollment period. It is important to find out, if there is an on-site health center or skilled nursing wing whether or not the center is Medicare -certified. If it isn't, Medicare pays nothing toward a stay. In addition, if you are on a Medicare Advantage plan, it will be important to find out whether the center is a part of your Plan's Network. Finally, If the center is certified and it is determined skilled care is needed, a Medigap plan may pay for up to 100 days per benefit period.
