Doreen Dann RN, BSN, MHA, Medicare Insurance Agent
About Me
I became an insurance agent in 2018 after having served as a clinical RN as well as an Executive within multiple acute care hospitals from rural to university settings, for-profit and not-for- profit settings. When I retired, I encountered significant difficulties enrolling in Social Security for my survivorship benefits as well as choosing the right health plan. My children were already working adults outside the home and so I decided to learn the law so I might assist other seniors in their transition to retirement and helping them choose their best health plans options. Becoming licensed as an insurance agent along with having a significant clinical background, has been a wonderful new experience for me. Although I live in Southern CA, I am licensed in multiple states.
Please allow me the privilege to compare your Health plan options and costs with no obligation. I look forward to hearing from you.
Q&A with Doreen Dann RN, BSN, MHA
Answer: Yes. Part A covers hospitalization services and Part B covers outpatient services as long as the services are Medicare approved. The “Medicare & You 2026” publication published annually is a good resource for you.
Answer: You may find an educational event more helpful than a sales event as the scope is to help educate the public on what Medicare specifically covers rather than view specific plans offered by a specific company. A qualified licensed insurance agent will ask you for a scope of appointment to document what specific topics you wish to discuss and then share plans which are within the scope of your stated desires. You are under no obligation nor cost to meet with a licensed insurance agent.
Answer: Yes, typically Medicare Part C plans offer these benefits through contracted providers; Medicare Supplement (medigap) plans generally do not unless they offer “extra” or innovative benefits attached to their plans with an additional monthly cost to the plan premium. The assistance of a licensed insurance agent can help you with this at no cost or obligation.
Answer: www.Medicare.gov is a good reference site but to truly compare plans and prescription costs, save your valuable time and money by seeking the assistance of a licensed insurance agent who can best compare costs through plans they are contracted to sell. Answer: Medicare does not pay for your groceries but some Medicare advantage prescription drug (MAPD)plans include supplemental benefits that cover groceries. Others may include coordinated meal delivery after surgery if in network.

When new to Medicare, there is a trial rite to enrolling in either a MAPD or Medicare Supplement plan to effect a change within the first year of enrollment. Medicare Supplement plans typically offer a “new to Medicare” premium discount monthly fir the first 12 months in the plan
Answer: Typically your MAPD or Medicare supplement plans will/may have a benefit to cover travel; look to your plans Scope of Benefit document or call your plan’s member services to find out specifics. Usually travel is not an add on option during the year. Coverage for emergencies is covered if outside in-network settings
Answer: Work with an independent licensed insurance agent credentialed with multiple carriers so they can help you find the most optimal prescription drug plans for the coming year
Answer: Become her power of attorney for healthcare; seek the assistance of a licensed independent insurance agent to assist you to find the most optimal plan for your mother; be sure the agent is certified to sell LTC policies; seek the advice of your financial adviser or CPA

Answer: Confidence they are making the best decision for their loved one; learning the scope of services provided; knowing what resources to use for emotional support
Answer: Reassuring them that there is no cost nor obligation to use my services; thank them profusely for contacting me;
Answer: Some Medicare plans only cover ambulance rides one way to emergency departments. Check your plan policy Evidence of Coverage document for your plan’s specific coverage.
Answer: Not all people are unhappy with Medicare Advantage plans but if they are, usually it is because of the required authorization process or having to stay within a closed network if they chose a MAPD-HMO rather than a MAPD-PPO plan if available.
Answer: If researching a Medicare Supplement plan, ask to review the rate plan to see what the rates are for ages 77 plus. Its important to know the year they become a standardized rate by age. This is where many age rated plans become competitive for the enrollee.
