Q&A with Delroy Burrell CLTC, CMSP
If I need long-term care in the future, how does Medicare fit into that plan, and what should I be doing now to prepare?
Answer: Page 56 of the Medicare & You Booklet, Paying for long-term care clearly states, "Medicare and most health insurance, including Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) don't pay for non-medical long-term service, including care in a nursing home or in the community"
The best way to be prepared is to speak to a Licensed Professional.
My friend gets SilverSneakers with her plan and I don't-how are we both paying for Medicare and getting such different stuff?
Answer: Medigap Plans do not provide Silver Sneaker plan. These are additional benefits offered by some Insurance companies
Can I get a Medigap plan with Guaranteed Issue if I'm losing my employer coverage?
Answer: Yes, If you are losing employer coverage you can get Guaranteed Medigap issue in the State of NY. All T-65 are also Guaranteed Issue.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: The agent is a licensed professional that understands the rights, options, entitlements, and limitation under Medicare and knows how to navigate the maze of Medicare.
I picked a Medicare Advantage plan based on the low premium, but now I'm facing high copays. Did I make a mistake?
Answer: I would not say a mistake but lessons learnt. Not all the time lower premiums work because you can be hit with higher copays as you have experienced. Sometimes higher premiums allow you to have lower copays, deductible and out of pocket cost overall. Working with a professional could have helped with plans comparison.
