Chris Oates, Medicare Insurance Broker
About Me
Medicare isn’t just about picking a plan — it’s about protecting your health, finances, and peace of mind.
I’m passionate about helping people cut through the confusion of the “Medicare maze” and truly understand their options. Too many people feel rushed, overwhelmed, or pressured when making Medicare decisions. My approach is different: education first, sales second.
As an independent Medicare broker, I work with multiple insurance carriers to help clients compare Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplements, Part D drug coverage, Hospital Indemnity plans, Dental & Vision coverage, and more — all tailored to their specific needs and budget.
I take pride in building real relationships with my clients and being someone they can call long after enrollment day. Whether you’re new to Medicare, retiring soon, or reviewing your current coverage, I’m here to make the process simple and stress-free.
My mission is simple:
Educate. Advocate. Protect.

Q&A with Chris Oates
My parents, ages 90 and 91, can no longer afford their Medicare Supplement Plan F and do not qualify for Medicaid. What happens if they cannot pay the 20% not covered by Medicare after cancelling the supplement?
Answer: Without a supplement, there is no 'cap' or 'out-of-pocket maximum' on what your parents might owe. A single major surgery or hospital stay could result in thousands of dollars in personal liability. If the 20% remains unpaid, healthcare providers may eventually turn the debt over to collection agencies. To avoid this, it is often better to switch them to a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan or a cheaper Supplement Plan N, which can significantly lower monthly premiums while still providing a safety net for that 20% gap.
How do I change my Medicare plan during open enrollment?
Answer: During the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7), you can review and change your Medicare coverage for the following year. This may include switching Medicare Advantage plans, returning to Original Medicare, or changing your prescription drug coverage. I help clients compare their current plan with available options to make sure their coverage, doctors, prescriptions, and costs still fit their needs.
Does Medicare cover shoulder replacement surgery?
Answer: Medicare usually covers shoulder replacement surgery when it is considered medically necessary by your doctor. Coverage may include the hospital stay, surgeon fees, anesthesia, rehabilitation, and follow-up care. However, out-of-pocket costs can differ depending on whether you have Original Medicare, a Medicare Supplement, or a Medicare Advantage plan.
What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?
Answer: Working with a Medicare agent gives you a local advocate who can help simplify the Medicare process and guide you through your options with personalized support. Instead of navigating confusing plan details on your own, you have someone with experience who can explain things clearly, answer questions year-round, and help make sure your coverage continues to fit your needs as they change.
