Q&A with Barry Baker

Answer: Check with the new plan you are switching to. Ask if your current doctor is in that network, if he is you will not need to find a new doctor.

Answer: You should consider working with an agent so you can learn the nuances of Medicare. The differences between Advantage Plans and supplement insurance are stark. There can be a big impact on your health and medical treatment in the future.

Also, work with an independent agent that has different carriers that give you more options rather than a captive agent with one company.

Above all, take your time and make a good decision to start, so you don't get fouled up later.

Thanks for the question,

Answer: Medicare will pay up to 80% for all those surgeries if they are "medically necessary".

Call 800-medicare with your Medicare number and information to verify coverage.

Answer: Unfortunately, if you do not meet the requirements for Medicare there is no payment of penalty that will allow you to enroll. You have to be present in the United States or its territories for eligibility. There are no previsions for green card holders or other classes of people. Work and pay taxes for 40 quarters, be 65 years old and present in the country for 5 years or married to a spouse that meets the requirements. Most Medicare penalties are for late enrollments.

Answer: If you have a Medicare Supplement (and Medicare A and B), you can go to any doctor who takes Medicare. You can make an appointment and get treatment.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can only get treatment out of your service area on an emergency basis.

Answer: Medicare covers many "preventive services" or "medically necessary" procedures. Asking what is "free" shows a lack of understanding of Medicare.

Generally, Medicare pays 80% Look in the "Medicare and You" book under Preventive Services for what is covered (there are over 40 such items).

Give me a specific test that you need, and I can tell you if it is covered or not.

Thank you

Answer: The Center for Medicare Services (CMS) pays the insurance company for your plan. There is a premium, but it's not paid by the Medicare beneficiary. It's not a "zero-cost", the beneficiary paid into the system (taxes) during his or her working life (at least 40 quarters).

"Zero-premium" to the beneficiary. but not CMS

Answer: Fake Medicare representatives are a major problem.

Have your State Department of Insurance investigate one of the representatives you want to work with.

Ask your reps for their National Producer Number, then verify it with the State Insurance Department.

Do not give your Medicare number, Social Security Number, or bank account numbers to anyone who calls you at random. Only trust the people you have verified.

Do not fall for promises that are too good to be true. THEY ARE FRAUDS.

Answer: You can file an appeal to Medicare. Do it through your Advantage Plan, then during AEP change to a plan your specialist takes.

Answer: I would need more information to answer this question. What kind of policy do you have? Supplement? Advantage Plan? etc. What zip code are you in? Age? State? etc?
