Q&A with Amber Cook

I'm turning 65 in three months but still working with employer coverage. Do I need to sign up for Medicare right now or can I wait?

Answer: You do not need to enroll in part B, but should still enroll in part A to avoid any potential penalties. *Unless you are currently contributing to an HSA account.*There may be penalties attached to signing up for part A if you are contributing to an HSA.

I'm confused about preventive services under Medicare. Which screenings are actually free?

Answer: Most carriers include bone density tests, colorectal cancer screenings, diabetes screenings, mammogram screenings, prostate cancer screenings, your yearly "wellness" visit and annual vaccines under preventative services. There are many more also. I hope that helps!
