Alicia Sargent, Medicare Insurance Agent

About Me

I am a licensed insurance broker and owner of Medicare Advocacy Center, a non-government entity, helping individuals and families understand Medicare and make informed decisions about their health coverage.

Before becoming an insurance broker, I worked for the Social Security Administration for more than 11 years as a Claims Specialist, assisting individuals with Social Security retirement, disability, Medicare, and other benefits. Today, my services include helping individuals understand and enroll in Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Part D, Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), and dental and vision plans. I also provide guidance with Social Security retirement and disability benefits and help seniors apply for Medicare Savings Programs, which may help pay their Medicare Part B premium and lower prescription drug costs.

Services are available throughout Western New York in English and Spanish, with office locations in Albion and Rochester. For those unable to come to an office, in-person appointments may also be available at their location in Erie, Genesee, Monroe, Niagara, and Orleans counties.

Q&A with Alicia Sargent

Why not just call the insurance carrier directly?

Answer: People can call the insurance company directly, but the insurance company can only show them their own plans. An independent agent can compare many companies at once and help them find the plan that truly fits their needs. It also saves them time because they get real time help instead of calling around on their own which can be very frustrating. An agent can also check their doctors, medications, and budget, explain everything in plain language, and screen for cost saving programs or other community resources the insurance can not assist with. These extra services are usually free of charge. They get personal support from someone who works for them, not for the insurance company.

What are the reasons why I should work with a Medicare agent?

Answer: Health insurance needs are different for every person. A Medicare agent is able to speak with you one on one, take the time to listen, and be able to truly understand your specific situation. AI lacks real human understanding and empathy because it is not human.

A Medicare agent not only helps you find the right plan for you by listening to your unique needs, but is also able to link you to, and in many cases, help you apply for other resources available in your community that you may not know exist. This usually happens as a result of the the Medicare Needs Analysis agents are trained to complete when they first meet with you. Medicare agents are trained to assist people in many ways, not just with plan selection and enrollment.
