Yes, you can.
But, if you have a qualified Agent, such as myself, you won't need to. I represent 10 carriers and over 60 plans in 5 states.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan it would have an outpatient surgery copay of 200-500 depending on the plan.
IF you also had a hospital indemnity plan along with Medicare Advantage, it would reimburse you 250-500 depending on the plan.

Many of my clients have gone with A Medicare Advantage plan along with a hospital indemnity plan to help fill in the gaps.
It can easily save over $100 a month vs a Medicare Supplement, which will go up every year as well.

In that case, you will be assessed a late enrollment penalty by CMS , which is 1% per month based on the national average PDP plan.

Many people that travel a lot choose a Medigap plan. Medigap plans can be used with any provider that accepts Medicare.
Medicare Advantage plans are less expensive, but they all use a Network of providers, if it is a national carrier, they do have national networks. Urgent care and emergency coverage would be available nationwide, but other care would have to be from in network providers for the plan chosen.

We were comparing plans for 2025 during the Annual Enrollment period for 2025.
If someone wants to compare plans or change plans now, it would be for 2026.
The Annual Enrollment period for 2026 is from October 15 to December 7th 2025 for a Jan 1, 2026 effective date.
Whether one changes or stays put depends on the medications, as well as the doctors.
